Optimal Causal Imputation for Control

چکیده
The widespread applicability of analytics in cyberphysical systems has motivated research into causal inference methods. Predictive estimators are not sufficient when analytics are used for decision making; rather, the flow of causal effects must be determined. Generally speaking, these methods focus on estimation of a causal structure from experimental data. In this paper, we consider the dual problem: we fix the causal structure and optimize over causal imputations to achieve desirable system behaviors for a minimal imputation cost. First, we present the optimal causal imputation problem, and then we analyze the problem in two special cases: 1) when the causal imputations can only impute to a fixed value, 2) when the causal structure has linear dynamics with additive Gaussian noise. This optimal causal imputation framework serves to bridge the gap between causal structures and control.

Missing data imputation in multivariable time series data
Multivariate time series data are found in a variety of fields such as bioinformatics, biology, genetics, astronomy, geography and finance. Many time series datasets contain missing data. Multivariate time series missing data imputation is a challenging topic and needs to be carefully considered before learning or predicting time series. Frequent researches have been done on the use of diffe...
متن کاملNonlinear H 1 Optimization : A Causal Power Series Approach
In this paper, using a power series methodology we describe a design procedure applicable to analytic nonlinear plants. Our technique is a generalization of the linear H theory. In contrast to previous work on this topic ([3], [14], [15]), we now are able to explicitly incorporate a causality constraint into the theory. In fact, we show that it is possible to reduce a causal optimal design prob...

متن کاملMultiple imputation methods for treatment noncompliance and nonresponse in randomized clinical trials.
Randomized clinical trials are a powerful tool for investigating causal treatment effects, but in human trials there are oftentimes problems of noncompliance which standard analyses, such as the intention-to-treat or as-treated analysis, either ignore or incorporate in such a way that the resulting estimand is no longer a causal effect. One alternative to these analyses is the complier average ...
متن کاملImputation Without Doing Imputation: A New Method for the Detection of Non-Genotyped Causal Variants
Genome-wide association studies allow detection of non-genotyped disease-causing variants through testing of nearby genotyped SNPs. This approach may fail when there are no genotyped SNPs in strong LD with the causal variant. Several genotyped SNPs in weak LD with the causal variant may, however, considered together, provide equivalent information. This observation motivates popular but computa...
